Meet your Instructor

Walker-Pilates was founded by Jo Walker in 1990.

Her interest in fitness started with Yoga with Richard Hittleman at the age of seven. This kick-started what would become a lifelong ambition to develop her knowledge and skill, and later share her passion with her community.

Jo started her training with the YMCA, focusing on Aerobics and Physiology, and later branched out to learn a rolodex of different athletic styles!

Jo took up the study of Pilates in 1990, and joined on to multiple courses to learn all styles and teaching methods so she could create a bespoke service for her community. Her aim was, and continues to be, to help as many people as possible to get and stay fit, and to do so within their own personal restrictions. After joining Pilates with Jo, you should understand clearly how your body should move.

Just some of Jo’s qualifications include:

  • MD Combined Physiatry & Kinesiology

  • MSc Applied Sport & Exercise Science Biomechanics

  • ETAB Muscle Corrective Therapy (Sports Massage Therapy)

  • Specifics course in Weight Bearing Exercise for Osteoathritis, Osteopenia and Osteoporosis

  • Study in Fibromyalgia and Multiple Sclerosis.

She is also credited for creating the Traverse Weighted Muscle Technique™ which allows you to work your muscles entirely in heavy isolation, which means a better workout in a shorter space of time.

Jo continues to scientifically research training techniques to keep up-to-date with all knowledge and ensure she is providing the best service to her community.
